The Franz Josef Medical Center is located at the North end of Cron Street, just north of the intersection of Kamahi Cresent / Douglas Drive.

The clinic is usually open 8.30am to 5 pm Monday to Friday.

Enrolments

If you live in the Franz Josef region or are staying for a while, we encourage you to check if you are eligible to enrol with the South Westland Area Practice.

Enrolment is free and means you can get cheaper healthcare when you need it.

Ask about the ‘My Indici’ app patient portal to manage your appointments and test results.

Prescriptions

The nearest pharmacy is Westland Pharmacy in Hokitika.

When you receive a prescription the Franz Josef Clinic team will send it directly to the Westland Pharamacy.  If this is your first prescription you will need to contact the Westland Pharmacy to open an account.

You can collect your items from the pharmacy or ask them to courier your prescription to the Franz Josef Clinic where it can be collected from reception during the Franz Josef Clinics opening hours. 

Courier fee is usually $6 per parcel.

Pharmacy Opening Hours: 

  • Monday – Friday 8:30am to 5pm
  • Saturday 9:30am – 12:30 pm 
  • Sunday and Public Holidays 10am-12pm

 

Delivery Schedule for Prescriptions

Prescriptions received before mid day (Monday to Thursday) will be available for collection from the Franz Josef Clinic after midday the next day.

Prescriptions received at the pharmacy after mid day Friday will be available for collection after mid day on Monday. 

 

After-hours - Ka Ora

After Hours – call Ka Ora for health advice and treatment over the phone

  • West Coasters, and visitors to the Coast, can now use Ka Ora Telecare for free health advice and treatment on weekends, evenings, and public holidays. The Ka Ora team can advise whether you need to see a health professional.
  • Connect with Ka Ora by either calling 0800 252-672 or accessing their website kaora.co.nz
  • Available between 5pm and 8am on weeknights and 24 hours a day on weekends and public holidays.
  • Call for free advice (then, depending on your age and level of care needed, if you need to speak with a health professional there may be a charge).
  • There is a still an in-person service available for those who need it. The Ka Ora team will refer you to the in-person service available in your area if you need it.

Ka Ora Telecare provides people living in rural areas with a quick and easy solution to connect with a health care professional for after hours Medical Advice and Treatment. 

Phone and Video Consultations are available for visitors and residents south of Ross.
